Math test Sample Questions

Hello parents and students,

Just a reminder that the math test will include the types of addition and subtraction word problems that I have been posting all along. It will also include a few questions from our Whole Numbers unit--putting numbers in standard, expanded and written form, estimation using rounding, ordering numbers and sorting numbers. I have posted some sample questions below. Thanks.

Reminder about SPIRIT WEEK

Spirit Week - December 16-19

To foster school spirit and well-being, we will be have a variety of fun activities during the last school week in December. Students are encouraged to participate if they would like to.

Monday, December 16 - Wear Red/Green - Students are encouraged to wear something red or green to school.

Tuesday, December 17 - Fun Sock Day  - Student are encouraged to wear fun socks to school.

Wednesday, December 18 - Festive Wear Day - Students are encourage to wear something festive to school.

Thursday, December 19 - PJ/Stuffy Day - Student may wear their PJ's and bring a stuffy to school.

Removing Problems

Sasha bought 743 stickers. She gave 291 stickers to her friend. How many did she have left?

Students have so far learnt how to use number line, blocks and pictures to solve joining and removing word problems that require subtraction.

Math test UPDATE

Dear Parents and Students of 4B,

We have changed the date for the math test to December 16th rather than December 9th.

It will be on Whole Numbers, Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems on Monday, December 16th.  

Waste in our World Inquiry

Students have been exploring waste in our world. Our new guiding question for inquiry is:

How can we as environmentalists educate people on how to manage waste in our world?

Students had an opportunity to sort the waste from their snacks into 4 categories:

 mixed recyclables, refundable beverage containers, compostables and landfill. They then created a graph and found that our class mainly had recyclable material.
